Veterinarian in Lake in the Hills, IL

Your neighborhood veterinary practice. Privately owned, personally run, right here in Lake in the Hills.

Our Story

In 2009, my husband and I were commuting long distances, raising four daughters under five, and dreaming of owning a small business rooted in a community we could actually call home. Driving through Crystal Lake, Huntley, and Lakewood, we passed empty strip mall after empty strip mall. And then we found it: A quiet corner on Princeton Lane, nestled next to a corn field, with no traffic and no stop lights, close enough to reach every surrounding neighborhood and township with ease. That was the beginning of Healthy Paws Animal Hospital.

Healthy-Paws-Office-Front
Our landlord Randy was an unforgettable mix of bear hugs, business sense, and integrity. With his support, a love of veterinary medicine, and a community that welcomed us from the start, we opened our doors in 2010. We have not left.

That origin story is also the story of who we are. Privately owned from day one, every decision about who we hire, what medications we use, and how we schedule appointments is ours to make. No corporate office in another city. No protocol handed down from management who has never met your pet. Just our team, your pet, and the care we believe every patient in Lake in the Hills deserves.

Many of our clients have been with us since their first pet. They have watched our practice grow the same way we have watched their families grow. That kind of relationship does not happen by accident. It happens when you treat every visit as if it matters, because it does.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Healthy Paws Animal Hospital different from other veterinarians in Lake in the Hills?

We are privately owned and have been under the same ownership since 2010. Every recommendation comes from the doctor who knows your pet, not a corporate protocol. Your pet goes directly to a private exam room when you arrive. You receive a dedicated veterinary technician for the full visit. Dr. Burgess and Dr. Haslitt personally follow up after nearly all visits. Our clients tell us they leave feeling seen, heard, and like individuals. That is what we work toward every single day.

Do you offer same-day appointments?
Yes. We offer same-day urgent care during regular business hours. If your pet needs to be seen, call us at (815) 322-5400 and our team will do everything possible to accommodate you that day.
How do I schedule a first appointment?

At 125 acres, this is the largest park in the village. Open green space, walking paths, and plenty of room to stretch with your dog after a long week.

Bark Park

One of the nicest dog parks in McHenry County is located adjacent to Sunset Park. It is a well maintained park whose land is divided, one side for large breed dogs, the other side for our small breed friends.

Barbara Key Park Fen

A 240-acre natural area with trails through one of the region’s most significant ecosystems. A quieter outing for you and a leashed dog who prefers nature over crowds.

Bike Path Network

More than five miles of connected off-street paths wind through the village. A consistent, low-traffic option for a longer walk or run with your dog any day of the week.

A Note for Cat Owners

If your cat spends any time outdoors, make sure their microchip registration is current. A microchip is only useful if the contact information attached to it is up to date. If you are unsure, ask us at your next visit and we will look it up.
