Veterinarian in Algonquin, IL

Just 10 minutes from Algonquin via Algonquin Rd to Lakewood Rd. Personal, privately owned care for the dogs and cats of Algonquin.

Our Story

With the Fox River running through its center, Algonquin straddles McHenry and Kane counties, growing immensely since its incorporation in 1890. In my not too distant memory, the drive from I-90 to Crystal Lake was just that: A way to get from here to there, two-laned, with no major stores along the way. Healthy Paws Animal Hospital in Lake in the Hills is situated just north and west of the bustling Algonquin Commons and old downtown. Close enough to be easily accessible for pet owners, but far enough to be away from the commotion and traffic that is Randall Road, we are a proudly privately owned practice that has made every effort to pay attention to all of the details when it comes to your pet’s veterinary care.

Healthy-Paws-Office-Front
For a pet owner reading this, what does it mean to experience veterinary medicine in a whole new way? How different can Healthy Paws Animal Hospital be from any other corporately owned veterinarian you may pass on the drive from home to our front door? Our clients tell us frequently that we are different. They feel like individuals, and their pet is not just another dog or cat walking through the door. They know to expect a warm, personal welcome and an immediate escort to a designated exam room with floor-to-ceiling windows. It is normal to have a dedicated, degreed veterinary technician paired with their pets for the duration of an appointment whose length is not dictated by corporate headquarters. Clients tell us they leave our office feeling they have been given options, information, and support, always knowing we are here to answer any and all questions. Fearful friends are put at ease by a team trained to identify and support them through the visit, allowing us to provide needed medical care while keeping them safe and as calm as possible. Overall, we are told by clients they feel seen, heard, and like individuals. This is all we know, this is what we do every day, this is how we want to be treated.
Since opening our doors in 2010, we have chosen to be a part of the community our family lives in, plays in, and goes to school in. We have watched Algonquin grow and change, watched our clients’ children go from grade school to high school, and we have been a reliable and responsible part of the business and pet community. We welcome our Algonquin neighbors to stop by any time and meet our team, experience our environment, ask questions, and consider becoming part of our pet health community.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Healthy Paws Animal Hospital from Algonquin?

About 10 minutes via Algonquin Rd west to Lakewood Rd, a direct and easy drive that stays off the busy Randall Road corridor. Most Algonquin clients tell us it is easier than getting to some practices technically closer to home.

What veterinary services do you offer Algonquin pets?
We provide comprehensive care for dogs and cats including wellness exams, customized vaccinations, dental care with digital radiography, surgery, spay and neuter, senior pet care, in-house diagnostics, same-day urgent care, and gentle low-stress handling for anxious animals.
What makes Healthy Paws different from veterinary clinics closer to Algonquin?

We are privately owned and have been under the same ownership since our founding in 2010. Every clinical recommendation comes from the doctor who knows your pet, not a corporate protocol. Your pet goes directly to a private exam room when you arrive. Treats are offered to ensure your pet’s experience is one they will remember primarily for the ‘rewards.’ You will be paired with a dedicated veterinary technician for the full visit, and Dr. Burgess personally follows up after significant procedures. Our Algonquin clients tell us this is the difference they stay for.

Do you offer same-day appointments for Algonquin pets?

Yes. We offer same-day urgent care during regular business hours. If your pet needs to be seen quickly, call us at (815) 322-5400 and our team will do everything possible to accommodate you that day.

How do I schedule a first appointment from Algonquin?
