Veterinarian in Huntley, IL

Just 3 minutes from Sunset Park via Haligus to Ackman Rd. Personal, privately owned care for your dog or cat.

Huntley, named after Thomas Stillwell Huntley, founder of the railroad town in 1846, is one of the fastest-growing villages in Illinois. With a population growth from 6,000 in the year 2000 to nearly 29,000 in 2026, it is no wonder that in one generation Huntley has gone from a few shops to a complete community.

Our Story

We are located in Lake in the Hills, near the northwest boundary of Huntley. Algonquin Rd to Lakewood Rd is an easy drive that avoids the congestion of the Randall Rd. and Route 47 corridors.

When opening Healthy Paws Animal Hospital in 2010, our goals were simple: Provide care like no other, right here in our community, and in a way that reflected what our family wanted from health care. We were fortunate in finding our location as it sits in the middle of not one but four amazing townships — Huntley, Lake in the Hills, The Village of Lakewood, and Crystal Lake.

Healthy-Paws-Office-Front
We settled between neighborhoods, avoiding the commotion and traffic of Randall, Route 47 and Route 14, allowing easy access for our clients via Lakewood Rd. while still retaining the charm of old with a cornfield out our front window.

Many clients tell us after their first visit they have never had a veterinary experience like our hospital. This fills us with pride in our team and their commitment to providing the best care for our client’s pets. As Huntley has grown, so too have the options for pet care, and often staff turnover. As a privately owned practice, a rarity nowadays in the profession, we strive to be a cornerstone for pets and their owners, with reliable faces, experiences, and dedication to health care catered to each pet individually. As owner and head veterinarian, I have lived and breathed veterinary medicine since I was twelve years old, and this business, this team, this experience is a culmination of all of the years and lessons learned. Healthy Paws Animal Hospital is my husband’s and my fifth child, born 2 1/2 years after our fourth daughter.

What Sets Us Apart

A few things that we are told set us apart from others…

Peace

No loud, crowded, and scary waiting room; your pet and you go straight to an exam room with floor-to-ceiling windows and stay here through checkout. We take pride and extra time and care with our fearful friends, working with them not against them to keep them safe and calm throughout their visit.

Time

Coming to the vet should not feel like a drive-through experience. Your appointment means an exam room, a degreed veterinary technician, and a doctor all assigned to you – and only you – for whatever time is necessary to address all issues and ensure you understand your options.

Education

We love learning, we love teaching, we love sharing. There are so many tools available for owners whether it be on nutrition, training, preventative care, senior care, dentistry, or end of life guidance. Our goal is to lead our clients to the information they need to provide the best medical support for their pet.

Follow Up

There is no bad question, but sometimes it can feel intimidating to ask when the topic is unfamiliar. We pride ourselves in personally following up after every visit to make sure our owners have the opportunity to say “one more thing” or “I didn’t understand.”

Huntley Happenings for Cats and Dogs

Huntley is a community that loves its animals! A few local spots and events worth knowing:

Deicke Park

A jewel of a park with seemingly unlimited options to occupy your time. It is located off 47 south of Main Street. Dogs must be on leash, no longer than 8’ in length, when at the park.

Bark Park

One of the nicest dog parks in McHenry County is located adjacent to Sunset Park in Lake in the Hills proper, just a half mile from Huntley. It is a well maintained park whose land is divided, one side for large breed dogs, the other side for our small breed friends.

Pet-Friendly Patios

After your visit, bring your dog along for a bite. Huntley Dairy Mart, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, and Culver’s all offer outdoor seating where your pup is welcome. Sometimes the best part of a vet visit is the ice cream cone that follows.

Sit. Stay. Sip. — June 20, 2026

A fundraiser supporting senior pet adoptions, held at Sew Hop’d Brewery right here in Huntley. Live music, raffle baskets, and a great reason to get out with your fellow pet lovers.

Pawfest — October 3, 2026

An annual community celebration of pets at Deicke Park, hosted by the Huntley Park District. A fun-filled afternoon for the whole family and their four-legged members.

A Note for Cat Owners

If your cat spends any time outdoors, make sure their microchip is registered and the contact information attached is up to date. If you are unsure, we can check at your next visit – just ask us and we will look it up.
